Reconsidering Senran Kagura Burst ⊟
Senran Kagura Burst is a bit controversial — where some see a cute 3DS brawler with an all-female cast, others see a sophisticated boob-jiggle delivery vector. Really, it’s a bit of both – the reality of even this game is more complex, and even paradoxical in some ways.
Among the most staunch defenders of the recent XSEED eShop release, and its growing universe of spinoffs and sequels, is someone who knows the game really well: Brittany Avery (a.k.a. Hatsuu), production assistant at XSEED Games, who worked on the Tamsoft-developed title’s localization and continues to engage with fans about it.
Her honest affection for Senran Kagura and its characters made me reconsider my own feelings about it — it’s not just the usual case of “dev (or publisher) likes own game;” she’s genuinely, infectiously enthused about it.

OMG, Azure Striker Gunvolt is the new Mega Man ZX ⊟
Inti Creates (Mega Man Zero/ZX) announced this beauty at BitSummit, and it’s coming out exclusively for eShop this summer in Japan. Considering there are English subtitles and an ESRB rating is pending, a North American release for Azure Striker Gunvolt seems like a sure bet.

<3 game worlds with isometric views ⊟
As someone who grew up adoring games with isometric views like Shadowrun (SNES), X-Com, and various Tactics releases, I love seeing these shots.
The top image is concept art from Stéphane Boutin for Mercenary Kings — the PC/PlayStation 4 game doesn’t play or look like that, but it’s going to be an awesome run’n gun regardless when it releases.
As for the second piece, that’s "Bookkeeper’s Garden" from Chern Fai. While it’s not an actual game, god, I want to play that. I want to manage a magic library and garden, and be that little dude just getting a stack of books and reading them. Actually, I want to play/live in all of these isometric scenes Fai has posted on Tumblr.
